My partner, Lucas, and I live in the Mission in San Francisco and are currently looking for a doula to support us during birth and postpartum period. We are planning a hospital birth through Kaiser at the Redwood City Birth Center, and ideally are looking someone in-network with Kaiser and able to accept Carrot benefits. A little about us: we’re a French/German-American couple in our 30s, and this is our first baby. I tend to be thoughtful and preparation-oriented, and I’m looking for someone calm, grounded, emotionally attuned, and experienced supporting first-time parents. My hope is for a supportive and relatively low-intervention birth experience if medically appropriate, while staying flexible and pragmatic (not too attached to anything). I would love someone who can help us feel informed, supported, and steady throughout labor and the early postpartum transition. I am in need of a doula to guide myself and my husband, Shaheen, through the pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum period (including breastfeeding). We are hoping you can provide us with specific, actionable ways for Shaheen to support me during pregnancy, especially during labor, and during the postpartum period. I hope to labor at home as long as possible, avoid the epidural if possible, and I really would like to avoid a C-section. I plan to give birth at a hospital. As a backup, I would like to have a home birth. A home birth was my first option but baby had an arrhythmia which is the reason I chose hospital first at this point. I do have medical insurance to cover my hospital birth. Hi there, My name is Anna, and my husband and I are expecting our first baby, a girl, with a due date of July 24, 2026. We're planning to deliver at Scripps Encinitas. As first-time parents, we're looking for a doula to support us both through labor and delivery and then at home during the postpartum period, and I'd love to find out if we could be a good fit. A few things about what we're hoping for. During labor at the hospital, I'd like to try for an unmedicated birth and want support in working toward that. Afterward, we're looking for in-home postpartum assistance once we're settled back home. This is all new to us, so I'm also hoping to learn more about how doula support typically works and what your services include. On the insurance side, I'm covered through Cigna (Open Access Plus plan), and I understand you're in-network with them. I'd really like to make sure the services we receive are covered under my plan before we move forward. My benefits administrator has told me that coverage is subject to a prior authorization, which will determine the length of care and medical necessity, so the support we're approved for will be based on the care plan in that authorization. I'd appreciate any guidance you can offer on how billing and that authorization process work on your end.
