What's the Cost of Hiring a Midwife in Hampton, VA?

The cost of a midwife in Hampton, VA, can vary depending on factors such as the type of care, the midwife's experience, and the specific services included. Generally, midwifery services for home births or birthing center deliveries can range from $3,000 to $6,000. This typically covers prenatal care, delivery, and postpartum care. Insurance may cover part of the cost, but it's essential to confirm coverage with your provider. For a more accurate estimate, you should contact local midwives or birthing centers in Hampton, VA.

The cost of a midwife in Hampton, VA can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance covers the cost of a midwife in Hampton, VA, depends on your specific insurance plan and the midwife's credentials. Many insurance plans do cover services provided by certified nurse-midwives (CNMs), as they are licensed healthcare providers. However, coverage for other types of midwives, such as certified professional midwives (CPMs) or licensed midwives (LMs), may vary. It's important to check with your insurance provider to confirm if midwifery services are covered, whether the midwife is in-network, and if any pre-authorization is required. Additionally, coverage might depend on whether the birth takes place in a hospital, birth center, or at home.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Hampton, VA, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

Ottavia Turner

6 years of experience

Greetings, families. My name is Ottavia Turner, and I am a full-spectrum birth and postpartum care doula and a traditional midwifery assistant. I support families throughout the entire pregnancy journey, including hands-on support during the labor and birth process, ensuring you feel informed, empowered, and advocated for every step of the way. My services range from birth advocacy, labor support, childbirth education, holistic health practices, postpartum and nanny care, yoga, singing bowl sessions, and homeschool education, and so much more. I became a birth worker after experiencing my own home birth ceremony with my son. It was a deeply magical and transformative experience—one that showed me the power of intentional, supported birth. From that moment on, I knew I was called to support like-minded families in creating a birth experience that aligns with their desires, honors their body, and becomes a memorable and sacred moment for a lifetime.

One year ago I had the most life changing experience. I had my dream Home birth experience thanks to Ottavia Turner. Ottavia spent months preparing me for natural birth. Yoga , meditation, breath work and natural birth education classes all the services she offered me. I felt prepared and confident enough to endure natural child birth. During birth I remembered everything we did during our sessions. Hours later my baby boy was born safely at home in our bath tub. I highly recommend her and the services she offers you won’t regret it.

Hi, I’m LaTory “Ms. Tory” Whitney — founder and creative director of The Maternal Concierge. My work is deeply rooted in helping families feel supported, cared for, and less alone during pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood. After spending over 30 years caring for children and supporting families, I realized that so many parents are trying to navigate one of the biggest transitions of their lives without enough real, connected support. That realization is what inspired me to create The Maternal Concierge — an ecosystem of trusted professionals designed to help families access compassionate care all in one place. I believe families deserve more than quick fixes or surface-level support. They deserve people who can truly see them, guide them, and help bring calm into the chaos of parenting. Through The Maternal Concierge, I help direct and connect families with aligned providers including doulas, newborn care specialists, lactation support, mental health professionals, wellness providers, and postpartum support teams who all believe in caring for the whole family, not just the baby. I’m also the founder of Whispering Lullabies and creator of the Sacred Sleep Method, a gentle, nervous-system-informed approach to sleep and family wellness that focuses on connection, regulation, and emotional safety. Whether I’m supporting families directly or helping build a stronger network of care behind the scenes, my goal is always the same: helping parents feel held, empowered, and supported during one of the most important seasons of their lives.

Wanda is amazing! I had my daughter in my late 30 thirties and experience many complications. I don't know how I would have made it without Wanda. The care she took in explaining things to, helping me reduce my stress, helping me to prepare for my daughters birth was a blessing. She continued this care well after I had my daughter. Wanda provided, additional breast feeding support and guidance. With Wanda you are with family. She cares about you and takes every steps necessary to endure a successful birth and mom after. What an amazing soul!!

Hello everyone, my name is Marissa Howard and I am a certified Birth and Postpartum Doula located in Hampton Roads, VA. I strongly believe that the birthing experience should be empowering and peaceful. I encourage clients to feel they have autonomy over their decisions during the birthing process. I provide evidence based information to support and educate my clients in prenatal and postpartum stage. I also promote advocacy skills so my clients can feel secure in their decisions throughout the process of pregnancy/birth/postpartum. In my free time, my husband and I keep busy with our 3 beautiful children.

We are so grateful for Marissa! I knew from the moment we met she was the doula for our family. Her calm presence and joyful spirit was just what we needed for our pregnancy journey. Our meetings were informative and fun, and we felt so prepared going into labor. Marissa was extremely supportive through the whole process- always checking in to see how we were doing. She was a rockstar through delivery and stayed with us through the night until our daughter was born. I felt confident between her and my husband that I would be taken care of when I was unable to adequately make decisions during labor. On top of that, our two postpartum visits were helpful and honestly just comforting! At the end of our time together, we were sad to say goodbye because Marissa is forever a part of our family!

Starr is so much more than a birth doula! She is like family. We met before I had my baby and mentioned I wanted to get my hair braided before I went into labor and she said she's a licensed cosmetologist too, so I asked her to braid my hair at our next appointment and she did not disappoint! Then at the birth she was so knowledgeable and understanding. Me and my family definitely felt safe and secure with her by our side.

Namaste! I’m Tory Whitney; birth and postpartum doula, newborn care specialist, sleep consultant, mindfulness and Hypno Babies, educator, intuitive guide, and author of Sacred Sleep on Amazon. I am the founder of Whispering Lullabies, bringing 7 years of perinatal experience and over 30 years of hands-on childcare experience into the families I serve. I support parents through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and infant sleep with a calm, regulation-first, whole-family approach that honors both science and intuition. As a sleep consultant, my work is guided by a core belief: sleep is not forced or trained through distress—it is conditioned through safety, nervous-system regulation, and connection. I blend evidence-based physiology, nervous-system education, mindfulness, and intuitive attunement to help babies and parents settle into sustainable sleep rhythms—without rigid or one-size-fits-all methods. My birth and postpartum services mirror this belief. I believe parenthood is more than a transition—it is a sacred awakening. My mission is to help families feel seen, supported, and deeply aligned with their instincts as they move through birth, bonding, and beyond. Through in-home and virtual care, I hold space for families to soften, settle, and trust themselves—one breath, one night, one season at a time.

We had the absolute best experience with Tory, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. From the moment she walked into our home, she brought an immediate sense of calm and confidence that we desperately needed. After just one visit, our entire household felt more settled. She didn’t just care for our newborn—she taught me how to care for him with new techniques, hands-on guidance, and so much patience. She showed me how to soothe him, how to read his cues, and how to manage those fussy moments that had felt overwhelming before. Her approach was gentle, practical, and incredibly reassuring. On top of that, both the baby and I were coming down with a cold, and she handled the situation with so much compassion. She showed me how to help a congested newborn, helped me feel more confident in what to watch for, and even let me get much-needed rest. I truly felt cared for as a new mom, not just supported in caring for my baby. If you are looking for someone who brings expertise, calm energy, and genuine care into your home, Tory is absolutely exceptional. One visit made such a meaningful difference for us, and I am so grateful for her. I am excited to work with her again and ensure that I’ve really taken her lessons to heart.

Aniyla Palmer

Hi, my name is Aniyla and I am a Birth and Postpartum Doula and newborn care specialist. I created my own business called Rainbow Light with the intention of bringing a sense of belonging, peace, love, and light to women before, during, and after their pregnancy journey. To me, a rainbow represents joy, faith, and promise—a reminder that even in uncertain moments, there is beauty and purpose. At Rainbow Light, my goal is for every woman—of every shape, size, and color to feel welcomed, valued, heard, and deeply cared for throughout her journey. My motto is to bloom in care and beam in love. I want to create a space where you can feel balanced, supported, and able to truly flourish. From a young age, my passion has always been rooted in caring for women, babies, and families. I believe in the strength of the female body and the importance of nurturing and listening to it throughout every stage. Every journey is different, and just because your rainbow may not look like someone else’s does not make it any less beautiful, meaningful, or important. Your experience matters. I am so excited to begin this journey and connect with so many beautiful “rainbows” along the way 💛 Be blessed and bright 🌈 Disclaimer* Please note that at this current time I am in the process of setting up different insurance plans I will take. This does take a while to complete so unfortunately I am not currently able to take that form of payment until further notice. Thank you for your patience.

Aniyla created such a calm, supportive space during our first prenatal visit. She listened without judgment, explained everything clearly, and made me feel confident going into this journey. I already feel more prepared and supported. Her soul truly radiates light and ease. She makes me feel calm even with my pregnancy anxiety. Truly a great listener and a very naturally nurturing young woman! You can tell it is her passion rather than just a career.

Hi! My name is Asyia Jackson. I am a full spectrum doula in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia supporting mothers as they journey through pregnancy with comfort, love, and strength!

Recent review

I don’t think I can really put into words what Asyia has done for me. I was on the fence about hiring a doula but I know I wanted a better birth experience than what I had with my son 13 years ago. She was the first doula of 9 that I interviewed and my heart/mind kept going back to how comfortable and at peace she made me feel with just our first conversation. I needed not just a guide through physiological birth but also a friend to joke with, lean on, cry to and trust with my life and the life of my baby. Asyia was immediately with me during an emergency 33 week bleed. She continued to check in and answer any and all questions I had about the birth process. When it came time to labor she was like a pillar or strength and wisdom for me to hold onto. When I was afraid, she calmed my fears. When I was joking around, she was laughing with me. When things were intense and my doubt was strong she was speaking from my own inner voice out loud to trust my body, trust my baby and know I WAS doing this. My husband was an active participant and her guidance really helped him step into his confidence as a man helping bring his child into the world. I have walked away from this birth experience with a new found love for myself and for the body I grew up hating. I never felt good enough, strong enough, capable enough. Asyia didn’t just help me give birth in a way I wanted.. she helped guide me through a full spiritual, emotional, physical and mental transformation that has changed me for life. Thank you for believing in me, for walking with me and for helping me to complete my family

I am a Birth Doula that is passionate about working with families to help them achieve the birth experience that they are looking for. I provide emotional, physical and educational support during pregnancy, labor and delivery, as well as during the postpartum period.

Recent review

Susan is absolutely amazing and I would recommend her to anyone! My husband and I had never considered the idea of having a doula for my pregnancy and birth of our son, but then we attended a class that she helped teach. The benefits of having a doula were explained and we instantly knew that we wanted to have one. Susan was so informative, excited about her work and welcoming - we connected with her right away! We loved how involved she was from the very beginning of us deciding to work with her. She met with us to determine if she would be a good fit - which she was! Once we hired her as our doula, we had multiple lunches to discuss our birth preferences and to answer any and all questions we had. During birth and delivery, she helped us determine when contractions were close enough to head to the hospital, she helped me work through the pain, and made us feel safe and prepared. When it was time for me to push, my son had the cord wrapped around and his stats were dropping. Susan, the doctors and the nurses helped keep me calm throughout that and made sure me and baby were safe! Once our son was born, Susan stayed with us to help with skin to skin and with the initial breastfeeding. We were so worried that I would have a traumatic birth, but with Susan by our side that was absolutely NOT the case. If / when we have another baby, we will 1000% have her by our side again - we LOVE her!
