As a mother of 4, I have experienced two hospital births, one which was an induction and a NICU baby; and I have experienced two midwife supported water births. I have formula fed, exclusively pumped, and exclusively breastfed. Hello and CONGRATULATIONS! I began providing birth support to friends years ago, but without formal training. More recently, I encountered women who gave up or never initiated breastfeeding and so, became a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). Then, as I continued my education in that field I found significant statistical proof for the positive impact Doulas have in birth and thereby, lactation. So, it made sense to finally certify :-D I’ve completed DONA training and am in the process of meeting their certification requirements. Meanwhile, I’ve acquired NICU-Informed Doula designation, attended a Spinning Babies workshop, and am close to completing WaterBirth certification, plus strive to participate in other seminars / training for various aspects of birth to increase knowledge and improve my services.
