What's the Cost of Hiring a Lactation Consultant in Greenfield, WI?

The cost of a lactation consultant in Greenfield, WI, may vary depending on the provider, location, and the type of service offered (e.g., in-home visits, clinic visits, virtual consultations). If specific data for Greenfield, WI, is unavailable, the average cost for a lactation consultant in the United States typically ranges from $150 to $350 for an initial consultation, which usually lasts 60 to 90 minutes. Follow-up visits often cost less, ranging from $75 to $200. Some insurance plans may cover part or all of the costs, so it's worth checking with your provider.

The cost of a lactation consultant in Greenfield, WI can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Certification

International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) typically charge more than Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs) due to their advanced training and ability to handle complex breastfeeding issues.

  • Visit Type

In-home visits generally cost more than office visits or virtual consultations. Many consultants in Greenfield offer telehealth options at reduced rates.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance covers the cost of a lactation consultant in Greenfield, WI, depends on your specific insurance plan. Under the Affordable Care Act, many health insurance plans are required to cover breastfeeding support, including lactation consulting, without cost-sharing. However, coverage can vary between providers and plans, so it’s essential to check with your insurance company directly to confirm details. You should ask if lactation consultants are covered, whether they need to be in-network, and if a referral is required. Additionally, some consultants may help you with insurance reimbursement if they are not directly covered.

  • Number of Sessions

Some consultants offer package deals for multiple sessions, which can be more cost-effective than paying per visit, especially for ongoing breastfeeding challenges.

  • HSA and FSA Eligibility

Lactation consulting is an IRS-eligible medical expense, meaning you can use HSA or FSA funds to cover the cost without paying taxes on those dollars.

  • Experience and Specialization

Consultants with specialized expertise in areas like tongue ties, premature infant feeding, or relactation may charge higher rates.

When looking for a lactation consultant in Greenfield, WI, it's a good idea to check with your insurance provider first, as many plans cover lactation services. Interview several consultants to find one who fits your needs and budget, and ask about their specific credentials, experience, and what each session includes.

https://rootsandrestdoula.my.canva.site/ Hi, all! My name is Kiara and I am a full-spectrum certified doula, certified lactation specialist, and student lactation consultant — and a mom to three amazing boys — I’m passionate about walking beside families through every part of their journey. My work is rooted in compassion, education, and the belief that every parent deserves gentle, informed support. The name Roots & Rest came from my belief that families thrive when they are grounded in support and given time to rest. My work as a doula and lactation professional centers around helping parents feel steady, cared for, and confident as they have grow their roots in parenthood.

Kiara helped my family during the first 8 weeks with our second child and she was wonderful. Her presence each night was a comfort to the whole family. She had a knack for understanding and soothing my baby, quickly attending to his cries so he didn’t wake the toddler, and supporting us parents along the way. I was especially appreciative of Kiara’s experience and expertise with lactation consulting — she had some great advice when my baby was struggling with gas, and she clearly understood hunger cues vs when my baby just needed extra soothing at night. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to welcome Kiara into our home, and I’m confident other families will feel the same. Highly recommend!

As a certified doula of color with extensive training in lactation support, birth, postpartum care, and infant feeding (including baby-led weaning), I am deeply committed to providing safe and empowering care for women and all birthing individuals. Recognizing the historical disparities in modern medicine for women of color, my practice centers on ensuring you, your baby, and your family feel secure and well-supported throughout your prenatal, birthing, and postpartum journey. I reside in the Milwaukee area but am willing to travel within the state of Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

After having two traumatic birth experiences caused by negligent doctors I decided for my third and final pregnancy that I would take a leap of faith and go with a doula to advocate for me and make sure my final birth experience would be on MY terms. With the help of Brianna and my midwife team, I had an extremely peaceful and empowering unmedicated birth experience with no interventions from any doctor. I had complete and total faith and trust in Brianna to make decisions that I would make after extensive conversations and consultations about what my ideal birth experience would look like. Brianna took all of my stress and worry away and I was able to 100% focus on the flows of active labor and she supported me through it 100%. And she not only supported me through birth, but the days that followed. I wish I had gone this route with my previous two but how lucky am I that I got to have this experience the third time around.

Shantique Smith-Hayes

Peace, my name is Shantique Smith-Hayes and I am a Certified Holistic Birth and Postpartum Doula in Milwaukee, WI. I am the Wife to an amazing Husband, and Mother of two lovely Daughters- ages 8 and almost 3. In my free time I love to lay out on my couch, in front of my big patio windows, cup of tea in hand, sun beaming, watching Nature do its thing. I enjoy traveling, reading books that make me feel good, painting, letting my inner child shine, and indulging in flavorful foods– Soul Food, Jamaican Food, Carribean Food, Mexican Food, you name it! I am authentically and purposefully myself. I take pride in having such a bright, Sunflower Aura. My philosophy is that every mother and baby, regardless of circumstances at time of conception, should have access to quality, personal, supportive care. As a Holistic Doula, my approach to pregnancy and childbirth recognizes that a woman's body is naturally designed to conceive, nourish, and give birth to their baby(ies). Our wombs are our centers and do far more than produce babies: they give birth to the power in us. I am a firm believer that the more you know, the less you fear. In my practice, I review the different phases of labor, positioning of baby and pain management techniques to help cope with the discomforts of contractions. I educate women of their birthing rights and help create an individualized birth plan, ensuring that they feel confident advocating for themselves and their healthy birthing experience. I offer 1:1 individualized prenatal wellness education on topics such as: prenatal care, pregnancy related physical and emotional changes, childbirth, breastfeeding, postpartum changes, parenting roles, and newborn care and safety. My doula work involves gentle practices such as breathwork and gentle stretching, utilizing herbal medicine, taking meditative walks in nature, intuitive painting, aromacaress therapy with infused oils and essential oils, and gentle womb massages. Each of these practices has a unique way of showing us who we really are- unmasked, vulnerable, courageous and bold. These practices equip women with the tools necessary for a safe, successful and memorable pregnancy and birthing experience; all of which in turn reduces the risk of undesirable pregnancies and birth outcomes in black maternal health.

Shantique was the doula for a patient I was caring for recently. Our mother desired an unmedicated, natural birth. She was highly motivated and successful with her plan much due to the coaching provided by Shantique. She was professional and knowledgeable about the labor process. She was by her side the entire time to encourage the patient and reassure her even when she thought she couldn't do it anymore. I enjoyed working with Shantique and look forward to working with her again! Sincerely, Lynne RN
