Sarah Lenihan

5 years of experience

My name is Sarah. I am passionate about helping moms birth without fear and experience physiological labor while trusting the way God designed our bodies to labor and birth. I am holistically minded while holding respect and thankfulness for the use of interventions when medically necessary. I’m a homeschooling mom of 4 and wife to my husband Luke. I love Jesus and I am a deeply empathetic person. I believe in the sanctity of life, that all human beings are fearfully and wonderfully made. I enjoy camping, fishing, riding bikes, and finding cool parks with my kids. My favorite things: iced coffee (always iced)& meaningful conversations! My goal is to love and serve expectant mothers and families with exceptional support and to help them have a birth experience they can feel good about. I am here to help you navigate pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period with confidence, education, and joy.

Working with Sarah was an absolute blessing during one of the most important moments of our lives. Sarah was not only knowledgeable and supportive but also incredibly compassionate. Her calming presence and reassuring words made a world of difference throughout the entire birthing process. She provided emotional support, helpful advice, and ensured my partner and I felt empowered every step of the way. The photos they took are not just pictures but powerful memories that we will cherish forever. Sarah's ability to capture intimate moments without being intrusive was remarkable. She was attentive to our preferences and captured every emotion and detail perfectly. I cannot thank Sarah enough for her incredible support during the birth of my last pregnancy. She is truly a gem and we are so thankful to have had her!

UNMH Volunteer Birth Companion Program

8 years of experience

The UNMH Volunteer Birth Companion Program provides volunteer doulas to all families birthing at UNM Hospital. We believe that all families have the right to excellent emotional, mental and physical support while welcoming a child into the world. The birth justice-focused program aims to provide respectful, compassionate, and non-judgmental care. We acknowledge the diversity of people and their reproductive choices and experiences. Through our work, we hope to improve birth experiences and lessen health disparities in maternity care. We are hospital volunteers who can be with you when you are in labor, when you are giving birth, and immediately afterwards. We provide physical, emotional and informational support. During labor, we can help you get the information you want and understand what medical providers are saying, including what procedures are being suggested. We also help with pain management by assisting with position changes, providing counter pressure and massage, help with breathing techniques, relaxation, visualization and more. Your birth companion can help you feel more comfortable by getting you warm blankets, a birth ball and things to eat and drink, as appropriate. We do not take the place of partners, family or friends. We help them support you. We usually stay for about an hour after you give birth. During that time, we can help with early breastfeeding We also provide support while you are pregnant by offering a prenatal meeting with one of our birth companions. We will talk to you about what you want for your labor. We can talk about pain management, common procedures and what to expect when you are on the Labor and Delivery floor.

Gabriella is by far the BEST doula I have ever worked hired. From her care, compassion, knowledge, wisdom I received from her. It was everything I had hoped for in what I wanted to experience during birth. I felt heard during my entire pregnancy I felt like she knew exactly what I was feeling and going through during the entire pregnancy, labor & postpartum. That in itself is what I felt like makes her care so unique and important and so RESPECTED. Every appointment felt like sweet fellowship. Which is what we all really want in the end. Where the care you receive feels like home. I felt like she deeply understands the Art and beauty of birth. Which is why she brought so much joy to my births & unity to our family at each appointment. Also I received so much care during my post partum period from the foods she recommended to the rhythm of how to handle postpartum. That was something that I really loved about her. She was there for me post partum. Overall this was by far a 10/10 service. I will be back again as she provided more care than the average doula I may be biased but if your looking for the best, someone who cares about you your baby your family. Gabriella is your girl.

I am Tintawi Kaigziabiher, and my family and I live in Northern New Mexico. As a woman of African Descent. I recognize the importance of both science and tradition in uplifting Black and Indigenous communities. My husband and I have five living children. We have also experienced five pregnancy losses. Understanding the impact of personal pregnancy loss and stillbirth among families has inspired me to want to support as many people as possible so they can live to see their child’s birth, first birthday, and beyond. It is equally important that people have support through pregnancy loss. In my day-to-day life, I am an interdisciplinary artist, a writer, Olorisa (Lukumi Priest), Certified Lactation Counselor (ALPP), Certified Birth Doula (CBI), former Certified Trainer (CBI), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider, the Executive Director of the nonprofit ILE IFE, a PAILAdvocate Trainer (Pregnancy and Infant Loss), and the founder of the Our Earth Full Spectrum Community Birth and Postpartum Attendant (CBPA) training program. I am a published author, and my most recent work is a book entitled “The Bead Griot.” My writing and artwork center on giving voice to the experiences of African people living in the diaspora. I have worked in maternal and infant health since 2004 and professionally since 2009. I have assisted midwives, trained with birth attendants in traditional and evidence-based care, worked with families in home and hospital births, trained doulas and full-spectrum Community Birth and Postpartum Attendants (CBPAs), and supported women and birthing people in New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, and overseas, both virtually and in-person as needed. In collaboration with several statewide organizations I am part of, I seek to uncover disparities in reproductive health care and, with community members, develop unique solutions to improve outcomes for our most vulnerable yet resilient people.
