I am a Doula School International trained and certified Postpartum Doula and Newborn Care Specialist with over 9 years of international and local experience in maternal health. ​I’m a mom myself, so I know that the "Fourth Trimester" can be a lot. 1. Expert Newborn Care & Safety ​Newborn Soothing Techniques: Teaching evidence-based methods to calm a fussy baby. ​Safe Sleep Guidance: Helping parents implement safe sleep environments to reduce SIDS risks. ​Hygiene & Physical Care: Hands-on instruction for the first sponge baths, cord care, and diapering. ​Newborn Observations: Monitoring for normal development and knowing when to suggest a pediatrician visit. ​2. Specialized Feeding Support ​Lactation Assistance: Helping with latch, positioning, and identifying common breastfeeding hurdles. ​Bottle Feeding & Formula Prep: Paced bottle feeding techniques and safe preparation/storage of formula or expressed milk. ​Transition Support: Assisting with the emotional and physical transition when moving between different feeding methods. ​3. Maternal Recovery & Wellness ​Physical Recovery Support: Guiding the birthing person through the physiological healing process after birth. ​Postpartum Mood Screening: Using your background to monitor for signs of Postpartum Depression (PPD) or Anxiety (PPA) and providing early intervention resources. ​Emotional Stabilization: Providing a non-judgmental space to process the birth story and the identity shift of becoming a parent. ​4. Advocacy & Resource Navigation ​Culturally Safe Care: Providing specialized support tailored to the needs of Black, newcomer, and immigrant families. ​Healthcare Navigation: Helping families understand the Ontario healthcare system and how to advocate for their needs in clinical settings. ​Community Referrals: Connecting parents with local Burlington/Oakville resources, from pelvic floor therapists to mental health specialists. ​5. Practical Household "Bridge" Support ​The "Rest & Reset" Window: Taking over all baby care so the parent can sleep, shower, or eat a hot meal. ​Light Household Tasks: Assisting with baby-related chores (laundry, bottle sterilization, nursery organization) to keep the home environment calm. ​Sibling Integration: Helping older children adjust to the new baby.
