Was breastfeeding but stopped gaining wait appropriately. Currently pumping and supplementing. Would like to try latching again and help with increasing supply
A lactation specialist to help me feed my baby. Currently, we are doing breast feeding with a nipple shield, but it is painful so we are only doing a few sessions a day. The rest is pumped milk in a bottle. He will not latch to the bare breast. The nipple shield was introduced because he had trouble latching while in the NICU. He had to take fortified breastmilk to help gain weight which was given in a bottle. The other issue is that he is fussy with feedings. We think it is gas and we started gas drops. We have tried changing the nipple flow (slower and faster), doing paced feedings in different positions, burping frequently, bicycle kicks, tummy rubs etc. the fussiness is mostly during the daytime hours. The pediatrician started him on reflux medication but it didn’t seem to make a difference. I am not convinced it reflux.
